Kids activities also provided.About this EventCooking Sections (Alon Schwabe and Daniel Fernández Pascual), founders of CLIMAVORE, invite participants to take part in two creative workshops as part of the Tidal Gardens project. These sessions explore food sovereignty and the potential of the intertidal zone to support food cultivation, while engaging with cultural practices and the impacts of human-induced climate change on our local coast and waters.There are two separate sessions each lasting 1.5hrs: 11.00am - 12.30pm and 2.00pm - 3.30pm.Participants will be guided on a creative exploration of the intertidal zone at Scorrybreac, where a trial Tidal Garden will be installed in February. Through observation, discussion and creative methods, the workshops ask: what grows here, how might a tidal garden be used, and how could it contribute to local food security? Together, we will imagine the intertidal zone as a shared ecological space, one that fosters relationships between humans and non-humans, supports future food systems, and reclaims a role for humans as stewards rather than exploiters.The workshops draw inspiration from First Nations practices along the Pacific Northwest of the USA and Canada, particularly clam gardening; an intertidal form of mariculture that uses low stone walls to create gently sloping beaches ideal for cultivating clams, crabs, seaweeds and other species. These gardens were not only sources of food, but places for sharing language, stories and care across generations.Skye’s coastline also holds traces of historical intertidal infrastructure, including cairidh, or stone fish traps. By revisiting these modest, community-oriented interventions, the workshops invite participants to reimagine coastal commons as places for cultivating both ecological abundance and shared knowledge, reconnecting people with the shore and its living systems.______________________________________________________________________________________While the workshops are primarily designed for adults, children’s activities will also be available, including collective drawing, crab fishing (catch and release), and guided intertidal explorations, subject to tide and weather conditions.Tea, coffee and cake will be provided.
