The Society for the Study of the Crusades and the Latin East (SSCLE) is pleased to announce its 11th International Conference, Crossing Seas, Crossing Cultures, to be held at the University of Porto from 29 June to 3 July 2026.

Proposals are invited for individual papers, sessions, and round tables.

Themes may include, but are not limited to:
Politics, Religion and Culture
Women and Gender
The Muslim World and the Crusades
New Sources, New Interpretations
Art, Archaeology and Material Culture
Military History

📄 Individual Papers

Proposals should include:

Paper title
Abstract (150–200 words)
Five keywords
Author’s name and institutional affiliation
Short biographical note (100 words)

🗂️ Sessions

Session proposals (three 20-minute papers) should include:
Session title and abstract (150–200 words)
Title and brief abstract (150–200 words) for each participant’s paper
Name, affiliation, and short biographical note (100 words) for each participant

💬 Round Tables

Proposals should include:
Round table title and abstract (150–200 words)
Names, affiliations, and short biographical notes (100 words) of all participants

🗓️ from 15 September 2025 to 15 November 2025

Presentations should last no more than 20 minutes and will be delivered preferably in English.
The conference will be held in hybrid format (in-person and online).

Bursaries will be available for research students, postdoctoral fellows, independent researchers, and other participants with limited means.
A Best Paper Prize for a doctoral student will also be awarded.
