Their lively performances bring down-to-earth authenticity and virtuosic instrumental skill. The group draws from eclectic musical tastes, diverse regional traditional music influences, and a deep catalog of original songs. Old-time, bluegrass, country, and world folk— and Shaker traditions— all find their way into the blend.Adding to the evening, Stuart Kestenbaum, former Maine Poet Laureate, will read a selection of his poems. His voice will offer a thoughtful and evocative counterpoint to the music, creating an evening that celebrates the power of both poetry and song.With Thanksgiving just around the corner Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village will have a pop-up store at the show. Their packaged, dried herbs (in production since 1783) will be for sale before and after the performance.Come enjoy an evening of Maine music, poetry, community, and a little Shaker-inspired flavor!Thursday, November 19 at 7:00 p.m. (doors open to the public at 6:30 p.m.). $15 for Mechanics’ Hall Members, $20 for General Admission, $35 for Reserved Seating. There is a $5 surcharge the day of the event. No one turned away for lack of funds at the door.ABOUT THE BANDJEFF CHRISTMAS (guitar and vocals) began playing music when he was 6 years old. Since then he has made his way from pop guitar to musical theater to jazz bands to opera to Americana and just about everything in between. He is equally at home on the operatic stage and in a smoky bar. He also is addicted to that connected feeling we can find when playing music together in a room and works to find and cultivate that feeling with  collaborators. Jeff was raised in Burlington, North Carolina and has lived in California, Massachusetts, Tennessee, and South Carolina before moving to Portland in 2015. Jeff brings all of these regional and genre ingredients and eagerly mixes them into the gumbo that is Yard Sauce.CALLIE BRENNAN (fiddle and vocals) was raised in Maine, where she spent her childhood writing short stories, practicing fiddle tunes, and tracking mud all through the house. At 18 she left Maine to pursue degrees in music, and traveled the world studying, performing, and eventually, teaching. She’s appeared in venues including the Sydney Opera House, Barbican Stage, Red Rocks Amphitheater, Abbey Road Studios, Boettcher Hall, and many others. She held title positions in ensembles including the Spartanburg Philharmonic and the West Virginia Symphony, section positions in the Colorado Ballet Orchestra and Colorado Music Festival, and appeared regularly with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and Colorado Opera. Now back in Maine, Callie holds a position in The Portland Symphony Orchestra, is a permanent member of the Portland String Quartet, and performs regularly with celebrated pianist Laura Kargul in their duo (aptly named), the Brennan/Kargul Duo. Callie joined Yard Sauce in 2025 and finds herself in frequent awe of her bandmates’ musical genius. When she isn’t dashing off to rehearsal, she spends her time fretting about the garden, chasing her toddler around the yard, and impulsively signing up for half marathons that she doesn’t have time to train for. CHRIS MOORE (mandolins and vocals) grew up in Maine. As a youth he studied piano and violin. He graduated with a degree in acting from Skidmore College. After college, Chris moved to New York City, where he worked as a performance artist, musician, puppeteer, and on the staff of the Arts at St. Ann’s in Brooklyn. While in New York, he studied with mandolin master Andy Statman. In 1989, Chris founded the band Rust Farm with guitarist John McGann and released two albums. New England audiences know him as a mandolinist with The Fogg Brothers bluegrass band. Chris has composed, performed, and recorded music for dance, film, television, theater, and visual art projects. He has performed as a classical soloist and was awarded a Maine Arts Commission Fellowship for songwriting. His songs have been recorded by and performed by Mark Erelli, Joe K. Walsh, Barnstar!, Adrienne Young, Carol Noonan, among others. Chris has taught lessons, classes, and workshops in mandolin, songwriting, English Country Dance and traditional Shaker music. He lived in Nashville, TN from 2003-2013, where he founded the band Kindling Stone, featuring original compositions along with 19th century tunes from the Shaker and Sacred Harp traditions. Chris returned to Maine in 2013 to work as the Director of Music Education for 317 Main Community Music Center in Yarmouth. His latest solo recording, “Changing Union” (2025) was produced by folk icon Tim O’Brien.ABOUT THE POETSTUART KESTEMBAUM is the author of six collections of poems, Pilgrimage (Coyote Love Press), House of Thanksgiving (Deerbrook Editions), Prayers and Run-on Sentences (Deerbrook Editions) Only Now (Deerbrook Editions), How to Start Over (Deerbrook Editions), and Things Seemed to Be Breaking (Deerbrook Editions). He has also written The View from Here (Brynmorgen Press), a book of brief essays on craft and community. In 2024, he and visual artist Susan Webster published A Quiet Book, collaborations in writing and visual art (Brynmorgen Press).He has written and spoken widely on craft making and creativity, and his poems and writing have appeared in  small press publications and magazines including Tikkun, the Sun, the Beloit Poetry Journal, and the New York Times Magazine. He served as Maine’s poet laureate from 2016-2021 and hosted Poems from Here on Maine Public Radio/Maine Public Classical and was the host/creator of the podcasts Make/Time and Voices of the Future.He was the director of the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine for over twenty-five years, and was elected an honorary fellow of the American Craft Council in 2006. More recently, working with the Libra Foundation, he designed and implemented a residency program for artists and writers called Monson Arts.Former US poet laureate Ted Kooser has written “Stuart Kestenbaum writes the kind of poems I love to read, heartfelt responses to the privilege of having been given a life.
