- **Event Description**: Tour of Active Harvest Operations – Research Forest Education Day – March 24thAbout this EventJoin OSU Forestry Extension, OSU Research Forests and NWTA for an education tour of active harvest operations on the Tualatin Mountain Research Forest.Northwest Trail Alliance is excited to partner with Oregon State University for a unique, behind-the-scenes educational opportunity on recently acquired forest land. This property, formerly owned by Weyerhaeuser, is now owned by OSU and managed as a Research Forest. For years, NWTA held a lease on this land and built a well-loved trail system that has become deeply valued by the local community. With this transition to public ownership, active forest management will look different — guided by research, long-term stewardship, and education.OSU has proven to be a thoughtful and collaborative partner, and we’re excited to begin a series of educational opportunities starting with a guided Tour of Active Harvest Operations. This tour will provide:Insight into how harvest operations function within a Research ForestA look at how land management decisions are madeA better understanding of how recreation and forestry can coexistOpportunities to ask questions and build relationships with OSU staffThis is a great opportunity for trail stewards, riders, and community members who are invested in the future of this property.Come prepared:Warm layersRain jacketClosed toed shoesWater/Snacks/LunchHard Hats will be providedHave questions? While we believe that everyone's barriers should be respected, we know that mutual support will help get us past those barriers. We must boost each other up and push ourselves to improve both on and off the bike. NWTA wants a world where everyone feels welcome, safe, and free in the outdoors. As an organization, the NWTA is committed to creating a pathway to nature for everyone, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, faith, and country of origin.
