This presentation will address common misconceptions about suicide for youth, and predominant cultural narratives around suicide in families of color. Participants will learn ways they can reduce the stigma about suicide in their relationships with their youth and teens. Participants will gain helpful strategies on how to manage suicide for teens such as recognizing signs of ideation and severity, having real conversations with their teen, managing their own reactions as caregivers, when to disclose to larger community, and how to build protective plans with their teen. The focus of the workshop will be on how to support the entire family system as they navigate teen suicide.Connecting with your KidsIn this session, you’ll learn how to deepen your relationship and connection with your child. Although many of these tips work best for ages 2-11, they can certainly be applied to older children (and even adults!).
