Dave Fleschner’s residency at Hōkū Events on Madison is emerging as a cauldron of musical creativity. Participants, both audience and performers, are continually leaving with the sense that they were immersed in a unique experience. Continuing this December with the musical telepathy of Dave, guitarist Dan Gildea and drummer Charlie Doggett, Fleschner is bringing a slice of Humboldt pie to Portland with the addition of special guest, Nandi Johannes.
Nandi is an American singer-songwriter, record producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist. He grew up in Trinidad, California , and began learning the violin at age 3. After moving to Astoria, New York at the age of 13 , he formed his first punk rock band, No Questions Asked (NQA) followed by the pop/rock band, 3:00 Prophet, embracing a strong following in the indie rock scene at the time. After graduating from LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts , Nandi would begin performing at leading venues and clubs in New York - Webster Hall, Knitting Factory, CBGBs, Wetlands , Roseland, and Mercury Lounge as a solo artist, DJ, and in his own bands. Having been hand picked by Peter Fluid of 24/7 Spyz to work in Peters solo outfit , The Fluid Foundation, Nandi would become both musical foil and creative comrade for Mr. Fluids endeavors in both the studio and on stage.
Nandi has electrified stages internationally on tour with the Lordz of Brooklyn at the Summer Sonic Festival in Japan and on the Vans Warped Tour sharing billing with artists such as Lee Scratch Perry, Beastie Boys, Green Day, and Nas. His music has been licensed to Microsoft’s Xbox game Rally Sport Challenge, ESPN and MGM/United Artists. Additional ad campaigns include Bacardi , Pantene and Coca-Cola.
Currently in the studio with the Humboldt County based band “ Trinidad Kid “, putting finishing touches on their debut album “ Growers Prayer “, Nandi joins Trinidad native son Dave Fleschner and the Dave Fleschner Trio for a forging-in-the- fire small batch series of live shows in Oregon and California .
