Get ready to pack the boardroom and show your support for PPS approving the purchase of One North: a beautiful building in the heart of Albina that is now poised to be the home of the long-awaited Center for Black Student Excellence (CBSE)!

PACK the BOARDROOM: Center for Black Student Excellence Vote x PPS Board!

In 2020, Portland Public Schools promised the community the Center for Black Student Excellence (CBSE)--and collected millions of dollars from taxpayers to build it. More than 5 years later, they've yet to make good on their promise.

But at the December 2nd School Board meeting, the District will finally reach a turning point that will transform the lives of students and families across Portland by voting to approve the purchase of the One North Complex to serve as the future home of the CBSE.

The Center will house academic supports and family and wellness services, as well as spaces for career exploration, creative innovation, artistic expression, community gatherings and celebrations, and more--and all for $20 million less than the $60 million dollars that taxpayers made available for this project through the 2020 bond. That means those remaining dollars can be invested in other capital projects that support and are aligned with the mission of the CBSE.
