As wildfires continue to devastate communities across the Pacific Northwest, we are gathering Wednesday, August 19 from 4–9:30 PM at The Lantern in SE Portland to grieve together.

This is a real-time, responsive space for anyone needing to mourn the loss of life, homes, ecosystems, and the many impacts of the wildfires and climate crisis.

We will gather in a facilitated grief ritual rooted in the Dagara tradition of Burkina Faso, creating a communal container where grief can be witnessed, expressed, and held together.

No previous experience is necessary. You don't need to know the “right” words or have a particular relationship to the fires. You are welcome exactly as you are.

Alongside the ritual, we'll be collecting mutual aid donations for the Warm Springs Wildfire Recovery Fund, supporting community members impacted by the wildfires.

Arrival is welcome from 4:00–5:30 PM. Doors will close at 5:30 PM when the ritual begins.

We believe grief is not something we are meant to carry alone.
