CASTING (actors must be 18+ to audition for Next To Normal):
DIANA: 30-40s, Female presenting. A suburban mother dealing with bipolar disorder.
Vocal range: G3 - F#5
DAN: 30-40s, Male presenting. Diana's dedicated but exhausted husband, an architect who is trying to hold his family together.
Vocal range: Ab2 - B4
GABE: almost 18. Male presenting. Diana’s son who died as an infant
Vocal range: B2 - C5
NATALIE: 16 years old. Female presenting. High achieving and often overlooked.
Vocal range: G3 - G5
HENRY: 17 years old. Male-presenting. Natalie’s romantic, stoner-philosopher boyfriend.
Vocal range: G#2 - B4
DR. MADDEN/DR. FINE – “Young side of ageless”. Diana’s psychiatrist.
Vocal range: A2 - A4
SYNOPSIS
Next to Normal is an intimate exploration of family and illness, loss and grief, featuring a thrilling rock score. At its heart is Diana, a suburban wife and mother living with bipolar disorder and haunted by her past. The musical won 3 Tony Awards® and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, one of only ten musicals to win the prestigious award.
