It’s a great opportunity to practice informally, take some risks, and enjoy the community. That said, this mixed-level jam is best suited for ukulele players who are already comfortable playing in the Key of C and are looking to expand their repertoires. We play songs that pull from a variety of genres, songwriters, and musical traditions, from folk favorites by The Carter Family to an 'ukulele adaptation of “The Wind Cries Mary”, by Jimi Hendrix.Our jams are led by Avery Hill, a staple instructor here in Portland for over 10 years and a regular at 'ukulele camps around the region. "I take great joy in meeting everyone where they are in their musical journey," she says. "I encourage participants at each jam to find the challenge(s) that feel right for them, and not worry about what feels out of reach. There’s something to learn from every song and I do my best to help everyone find their connection point to the songs we play."Jams are free, but if you are able to make a donation, it is gratefully accepted, so we can keep this jam going.
