About the event

Forêt Endormie: Neoclassical & Folk Francophone Music
Mechanics' Hall presents the seven-member ensemble Forêt Endormie in concert.

About this Event

“Extended suites that shift between dissonance and resolution so organically that it’s like they’re following the lunar cycle.”

-The Bollard

combines disparate influences, exploring early European classical music (Renaissance and prior), "continuous music" (Lubomyr Melnyk), and avant-garde jazz (Alice Coltrane), while incorporating electronic/synthesized elements drawn from trip-hop and ambient and folk influences from Acadian traditional music, Americana, and neofolk.

Their most recent album, Le désespoir utopique (English: Utopian Despair), was released in November 2023, with The Sound Projector calling it “a wistful and complex meditation on human displacement”, and Distorted Sound Magazine said the album is "an exquisite piece of work, one that rewards paying attention to its intricacies."

Scene Point Blank said that “They do not appear to be bound or confined to an enclosed space, and instead roam freely through this magical world they have created.” In 2024, Forêt Endormie received a Sonic Visions grant for Mot disparu de la carte (English: Word Disappeared from the Map), a song cycle built from Acadian poetry. The project's culmination was an event at SPACE Gallery in February 2025 that paired performances of the song cycle with traditional Acadian music and examined Acadian identity and influence on the history of Maine.

Thursday, February 13, at 7:00 PM, doors open to the public at 6:30 PM, approximately 75 minutes.

$10 for Mechanics’ Hall Members, $15 for general admission; there is a $5 surcharge on the day of the show.
