The Portland Comedy Film Festival, which started in 2015 is the biggest event in Portland comedy. The last one was a 3-day festival with a screening of over 150 films. Portland also hosts the Portland Queer Comedy Festival. This festival is the first of its kind with multi-day, multi-venue queer comedy. The festival features 5 stages with over 40 comics aiming to bring the best and brightest talent in international LGBTQ stand-up comedy in Portland, a beautiful, diverse and inclusive environment. Another event is the Real Comedians tour which comes to Portland with the Real Comedians of Social Media at Maranatha Church with their host Tahir Moore, performer Tony Baker and headliner KevOnStage.
Top Comedy clubs in Portland include the Helium Comedy Club, Harvey’s Comedy Club and Curious Comedy Theatre. The Helium Comedy Club is Portland’s premier comedy club hosting national headliners such as Simon Gibson and Whitney Cummings. They host Open Mic comedy in Portland almost every Tuesday and have stand-up comedy acts starring hand-picked favourite stand-up comics from around the country. Curious Comedy Theatre with live stand-up comedy in Portland every night along with amazing food and drinks. Harvey’s Comedy Club is Portland’s very first and the current longest-running comedy club. Helium Comedy Club conducts Writers Bloc for all newer comics to workshop their material with hand-picked established comics on one-to-one basis and get feedback, while also providing some finger licking food and drinks. Curious Comedy Theatre conducts Free Intro to Improv and offers a free workshop prior to each registration session. In this workshop, they give people a preview of what all the improv classes comprise of in a fun and supportive environment. PoC Comedy Workshop at Portland Center Stage taught by Katie Nguyen, is a workshop restricted to those who self-identify as a People of Color (POC) so as to create a safe cultural space for participants. This workshop helps learn and develop stand-up writing, stage presence and performance skills along with how to deliver punchlines to an audience.
