The Portage Gun Club, along with other sponsors, will host the WI DNR Hunter Safety class in August. You must register online via GoWild and complete the tasks below to attend.

The Hunter Safety Course is recommended for students at the 6th grade level and above, as youth 10 years old or younger often find the material and firearm handling challenging. 

Course topics include firearm safety (TAB-K), handling, loading and unloading firearms, safe carries, safe zones-of-fire, fence crossing, tree stands, and wildlife conservation. 

Both DNR written and field tests are administered, and students must score at least 80% to pass. Attendance at all classes is required, and a parent or guardian must attend the first class but are encouraged to attend all classes.
Class Dates: 08/04, 08/06, 08/11, 08/13, 08/15, 08/18.
Class times can be found when registering.

Please provide advance notice of special needs or accommodations for the course by emailing Portage.HE@gmail.com. The written test will be read aloud to anyone who prefers that opportunity. 


TO DO:

1. If you (or your child) do not have a DNR ID, you must create one. To create a Wisconsin DNR Go Wild account, visit the Wisconsin Go Wild site and click "Create a new account". Enter your Date of Birth, Social Security Number, and a valid Wisconsin Driver's License or State ID (for residents 18+) to set up your customer profile, then create your login credentials. https://gowild.wi.gov/ 
NOTE: if registering your child, we encourage you to use a parent/guardian email so communication and action items are monitored. 

2. To prepare for the course, complete the “online course” portion containing video, audio and graphical learnings. There are 9 units that have a quiz at the end of each section. This prework can take 4 – 6 hours to finish. Content learned can be part of the written and practical skill test. 3. Before the 1st class, send a copy of the certificate of completion to Portage.HE@gmail.com. 

4. Watch for communication from the above listed Gmail with reminders.
