- **Event Description**: Join tutors Julie Wilson and Anthony Haughey for this combined pastel and charcoal day workshop!About this EventSaturday 3rd October | 10am - 4pm | £40Tutors: Julie Wilson & Anthony Haughey This full-day class in two parts will allow participants to learn new skills and techniques for using sister media of soft pastels and charcoal. The class will be delivered as two separate workshops, each lasting 2.5 hours, with all participants experiencing both workshops.In Workshop 1, local pastel artist Anthony Haughey will demonstrate how to prepare pastel paper using a home-made ground before focusing on using an alcohol underpainting as the foundation for developing vibrant soft pastel paintings. Participants will then have the opportunity to use this technique themselves on their own paintings.In Workshop 2, Julie Wilson (Chair, Pastel Society of Ireland) will demonstrate her process of using reductive charcoal drawing to create a sense of memory and place in Irish landscapes, with participants again having the opportunity to follow along and apply these techniques to their own pieces.Some materials will be provided but participants should bring their own:[pastel workshop]· Apron (pastels and charcoal are dusty)· Hand wash· Soft pastelsWithin the pastel workshop, participants will be provided with paper and with access to an alcohol wash and brushes.[charcoal workshop]· Charcoal – combination of charcoal pencils and willow charcoal· Eraser and sharpener· Blending stumpsWithin the charcoal workshop, participants will be provided with shared access to try out charcoal powder, compressed charcoal, Nitram charcoal and motorised erasers (or are invited to bring their own as an option). Paper will also be provided, although if they prefer, participants are invited to bring their own wooden canvas or board to draw on. A reference photo will be provided, or participants can use their own. They may find it helpful to being a tablet to work from, although this optional.Suitable for adults at both beginner and intermediate level
