This open mic is a mixture of every genre, style, form, perspective and content from fiction to memoir to poetry, unpolished to polished, unpublished to published. Writers of all steps along the writing path are welcome! Please don't be shy—we have wonderful, supportive audiences!
This month's theme is “pivotal moment”: A moment, big or small that changed you, made you see life differently, set off a chain reaction, altered your path, split life into “before” and “after”, etc.
There will be 10-12 readers, each reading for five minutes, names drawn out of a hat. Your name must be dropped into the hat by 2:50pm.
There will also be two featured readers each reading for fifteen minutes. Our two featured readers for June are:
Anne Gudger: Annie writes hard and loves harder. She's the author of THE FIFTH CHAMBER, named “an emotionally riveting memoir, raw and inspiring" by Kirkus Review. She's been published from Newsweek to The Los Angeles Review, with lots of stops in between. In March 2020, with her amazing daughter, she co-founded Coffee and Grief: a community that includes a monthly reading series focused on grief. Everybody grieves and when we share grief, we feel less alone. They then launched a podcast called Coffee, Grief, and Gratitude. Annie’s big purpose is to normalize grief, to give grief a microphone. She lives in Banks, Oregon with her beloved husband. Her favorite words are love, gratitude, and we.

Kate Gray: Almost all the time, Kate feels just plain grateful, to be living on the Olympic Peninsula, tending land within the traditional territory of the Coast Salish Indigenous peoples, to live with her partner and two feisty dogs, to have taught at a community college for 25 years, to have been a writing coach for ten, to have two full-length poetry books, two chapbooks, and a novel published. Lucky on top of lucky, she’s escaped to writing residencies and to Baja for half the year. Best things ever? Writing with others. Teaching. Independent bookstores. Zumba. Blue Moose coffeecake.
