Description:
This workshop will focus on administration and determination of the Developmental Age Level of children using the HELP Strands, which assesses children from birth to 3 years of age in all 5 domains. It will include discussion of how to give appropriate credit for skills, using informed clinical opinion when testing scores do not adequately reflect a child's strengths and challenges, atypical development and strategies to use to develop EI sessions to develop skills child is missing. We will also discuss how to use the HELP Strands for bilingual evaluations and progress notes.


Learning Objectives﻿
Participants will be able to:
Describe how the Hawaii Early Learning Profile (HELP Strands) is used for ongoing assessment of skills across five different domains, to plan treatment and to track progress within the 0-3 population
Describe the various methods for collecting information as part of the assessment process
Observe and credit children’s skills using the HELP Strands protocol
Determine approximate Developmental Age Levels
To identify and examine strategies using the HELP Strands to be used within EI evaluations


Speaker: Julie Castineiras, M Ed.
Julie has been a special education teacher for over 35 years. She has been a Service Coordinator, Service Provider, QA supervisor, Program Director, and Bilingual Educational Evaluator for the Early Intervention Program and CPSE programs. She is also the President of Access Consulting, where she trains individual evaluators on the appropriate use of the EdEval program to conduct evaluations for EIP and CPSE programs. Additionally, she was an Adjunct Professor at several colleges teaching a variety of courses including Addressing Challenging Behaviors in the classroom, Student Internship, and Child Development.

Who is eligible to earn ASHA CEUs:
Effective July 1, 2011, individuals must meet at least one of the following conditions in order to be eligible to earn ASHA CEUs.
ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) Holder
Life Member, Membership holder without Certification, or International Affiliate
Licensed by a state or provincial regulatory agency to practice independently as an audiologist or speech-language pathologist
Credentialed by a state regulatory agency to practice independently as an audiologist or speech-language pathologist
Credentialed by a national regulatory agency to practice independently as an audiologist or speech-language pathologist
Currently engaged in a Clinical Fellowship, which is supervised by someone with their ASHA CCC
Currently enrolled in a masters or doctoral program in audiology or speech language pathology
Course Completion for ASHA CEU's: 
This course is offered for .2 ASHA CEU’s Introductory level, Professional area. Learners will receive a certificate of completion.
Full ASHA CEU credit for this online live training will only be reported to ASHA upon successful completion of all necessary criteria. Learners must attend the entire course to meet the contact hours. Adherence to these conditions is mandatory for reporting.

Tuition will be refunded with a deduction of a $5.00 processing fee if written notification is received up to two weeks prior to the workshop. From two weeks to 48 hours prior to the workshop date, a 50% refund will apply. Within 48 hours prior to the workshop, no refund will be available.
Cancellation by provider:
Full refunds will be provided to all registered learners. Any inconvenience caused is regrettable, and we will process refunds promptly within 5 business days after announcement of cancellation.
