- **Event Description**: First things first - This is NOT an official event. There are no organizers, no tickets, no registration, and no "hosts." I'm just creating this Facebook event because there isn't one, and this is one of those amazing Michigan traditions that somehow still isn't advertised. 

If you've never been... imagine thousands of people floating 7.5 miles down the St. Clair River on every inflatable you can imagine. Giant unicorns. Pirate ships. A Titanic. Floating picnic tables with grills. A mechanical-style bull float. Massive groups of 50+ people all tied together. Everything you can imagine, but also normal sensible things like kayaks. 

It's basically one giant floating party.

People decorate their rafts, tie up with friends, blast music, laugh with complete strangers, toss water balloons, spray each other with water guns, trade snacks (like Jell-O shots), and make new friends all day long. Along the shoreline you'll see crowds watching, people waving from docks, homeowners throwing annual Float Down parties, and one legendary house that grills hot dogs and hands them out to floaters as they pass.

It's one of those events that's impossible to explain until you've done it.

The float usually starts near Lighthouse Beach in Port Huron around 12-1 and ends around Chrysler Beach in Marysville, taking about 4–6 hours, depending on the current. Plan your parking and transportation ahead of time—you're definitely not ending where you started.

A few things to know...

The Float Down may be silly, but the river isn't. The St. Clair River has a strong current, so come prepared. Wear a life jacket, stay with your group, drink plenty of water, and don't overdo it if you're drinking. Bring a paddle—you'll want it for steering, getting to shore, staying with friends... and, perhaps most importantly, not accidentally floating into Canada. 🇨🇦😅

You'll see the U.S. and Canadian Coast Guards, local police, fire departments, and other emergency crews on the river throughout the day. They establish safety zones and manage boat traffic to help keep everyone safe, so if they give directions, be sure to follow them.

While families do participate, most of the atmosphere is geared toward adults. Use your own judgment if you're thinking about bringing younger kids.
