- **Event Description**: Come and celebrate the creations made by tamariki from Pūrākaunui School, Port Chalmers School, Kōputai Pioneers ECE and Port Chalmers Kindergarten, under the brilliant guidance and inspiration of our 2025 Artist-in-Residence, maker and local icon Beau Cotton!

The exhibition will open at 12pm at the Port Chalmers school hall, Wharenui. The artwork will be on display in the Wharenui for two hours while guests can also enjoy the celebration.

All are welcome at this event, which includes family entertainment by Te Kura o Kōpūtai Kapa Haka and the Port Chalmers School Marimba Band. Everyone is invited to bring a blanket and share a picnic lunch, along with Sausage Sizzle, vegetarian nachos, baked delights for sale and other refreshments.

Many will know Beau Cotton (Ngāi Te Rangi; he/him) from his roles in our local café scene, but did you also know he is highly acclaimed as a maker of jewellery and wearable sculptures? He has studied fashion in London, media arts in Hamilton, Toi Māori in Ōtepoti, and was recently awarded the Robinson Law Highly Commended prize at the 2025 Molly Morpeth Canaday Awards for contemporary New Zealand art. He has exhibited at Bowen Galleries, Wellington; Olga Gallery, Dunedin; Midden Studios, Portobello; and Pea Sea Art, Port Chalmers.

For two weeks this month, Beau will work alongside tamariki of Port Chalmers School, Pūrākaunui School, Port Chalmers Kindergarten and Pioneers Kōpūtai ECE to consider the question, 'what makes something valuable?' Can something be special, ‘just because’? Come and see how our kids respond to these arty questions, and enjoy a festive afternoon in Kōpūtai!
