- **Event Description**: This is an annual event, open to all school students from Years 0 -13. 

The purpose of this event is for students to have a go at orienteering, no matter what their experience or skill level is,
and there should be a course that suits any age or grade. 

Schools may enter as many students as they wish. The event
is PRE_ENTRY ONLY for all competitors, so numbers of competitors are known in advance, and certificates for the top 3
placegetters in the championships can be printed. Late entrants would risk there being no spare map, no available
Sport Ident hire chip, nor a certificate.

Parents, teachers, club members and non-club members can do the same courses as the students, after the majority
of the students have finished. This is to ensure fairness to the school students in this Championship event; that they
are not helped or hindered by non-student competitors. The approximate expected time for club members to start is
about 12pm.

ELIGIBILITY: all full-time school students, who are under 19 years of age at 31 December 2025, are very welcome to
compete; however those from outside Otago are ineligible for certificates and trophies.

SHADOWING: Adults are welcome to 'shadow' children on the Championship or Standard Primary courses only. Intent
to shadow should be declared at registration at the caravan, so that the results show “John Smith (shadowed)”. The
child will not be eligible for a certificate, even if they come in the top 3 places.

WEATHER CONDITIONS
This is a midwinter event on farmland with fabulous coastal vistas – and it is extremely exposed to wind. Rain or fog
conditions will make competitors on these long, steep courses very vulnerable to hypothermic conditions, and
navigation will prove trickier in fog on the courses with fences removed.

Whilst the Event Centre has a woolshed to shelter in, the Orange and Red courses cross over the road you drove in
on, and go out to the coast.

Therefore, there will be a check at the Start for Orange and Red competitors to carry / wear a long sleeved thermal top and/or wind/rain proof jacket. If rain or wind are even remote weather possibilities for the day, you will not be able to start unless you have one (or both) of these items.
ENSURE EVERY COMPETITOR BRINGS A LONG SLEEVED THERMAL AND COAT FROM YOUR HOME, that you can tie around your waist, or bring a small backpack to put them in.
