OPAS Field Trip: Peabody Creek Trail

Join field trip leader, Kathy McCoy, for a bird/nature walk on the Peabody Creek trail. It’s a 5.2 mile round trip, up Peabody Creek and back. You might spot our resident Common Ravens, Steller’s Jays, Northern Flickers, Oregon Juncos, Song Sparrows, Pacific Wrens, Townsend’s Warblers, Brown Creepers, Golden-Crowned Kinglets, and both chickadee species.

The resident birds should be on territory and defending, so you should hear as well as see them. Migrating species are also on the move, which means there’s a chance to spot some unexpected visitors! The local raptors include Bald Eagles, Cooper’s Hawks, Sharp-shinned Hawks, and merlins, but no promises on these guys. The group will be stopping for plants, chipmunks, salamanders, and snakes as well as birds, so get your naturalist hat on.
