- **Event Description**: The Mandela Bay Development Agency's Tramways Building in collaboration with the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa (PRISA) Eastern Cape will host Distinguished Professor Bert Olivier, Senior Research Fellow in Philosophy at the University of the Free State for a special public lecture:   The Early 21st Century:  Taking Stock.  Prof Olivier – one of Africa’s most celebrated philosophical minds and intellectuals  -  asks whether PR and communications professionals and senior executives have fully grasped the technological forces behind the global transition to a 'network society' and of a decentralised societal structure.  He will examine these forces and discuss how our experience of space and time have changed, and how technological devices affect knowledge and lifestyle.  Olivier will further discuss how the transfer of power from the political sphere to the economic domain has created incipient crises such as Brexit and Trump’s rise to power.
