We are excited to welcome you to Gwehelog for the 23rd annual singing weekend in this beautiful little chapel in the Welsh borders.
Proof of negative lateral flow test taken on each morning you sing with us is required. Link to full Covid policy below.
PLEASE NOTE - due to limitations associated with the venue, we will NOT be hosting dinner on the grounds for this year's singing. Please do make arrangements to bring a packed lunch with you for each day you wish to attend.
We will sing from the Denson 1991 Sacred Harp on the Saturday (19th of July), and the 2010 Christian Harmony on the Sunday (20th of July). Some loaners are available, but please bring your book if you can.
Registration at 10am for singing at 10:30 both days.
We finish at 3:30 on Saturday, and a bit earlier (~2pm) on the Sunday.
***Social***
🍺 We don’t have a formal social, but singers usually gather both afternoons at The Hall Inn (NP15 1RB), a 2 minute drive from the chapel. There is outdoor and indoor seating, and usually some sheep and goats too.
***Lifts and Beds***
🛏️A small amount of accomodation and transport may be available. If you require accommodation or help with transport from local singers (or if you're staying nearby and want to find someone for your shared room), please contact Joyce S on Facebook Messenger or at
YnJpc3RvbHNhY3JlZGhhcnAgfCBnbWFpbCAhIGNvbQ==
***Transport & Accessibility***
🚗 There is ample car parking available in an adjacent field. Please don’t park on the road, except for unloading/dropping off passengers.
♿ There is generally level access to singing room, with a bit of a lip on the door. The toilet is a few steps below the singing room, so if you can't use steps this would mean going around the outside of the (small) building to access the toilet, which is spacious but not fully accesible inside.
🚍 The 60 bus runs from Newport to Gwehelog, but only on the Saturday, and only every two hours. The 60 from Newport Friars Walk (Stand 7) at 9am will get you to the singing in under an hour (disembark at Trostrey, a 5 minute walk). Local and visiting singers will be happy to help you with lifts where they can, but this is best arranged in advance.
Proof of negative lateral flow test required each day, e.g. a photo taken at the manufacturer’s recommended read time. We’ll have some spares (allow an extra 20 minutes to take and develop your test), but it’s a long way to come if you test positive! We will ventilate the room as much as we can without causing physical discomfort. Do not attend if you currently have Covid, have recently tested positive for Covid, or have new Covid symptoms.
