- **Event Description**: We will be firing up the replica oven at Pontefract Castle this autumn for home educated children aged 10+ to have a go at baking gingerbread. 

In this workshop, participants will:
- help tend the oven until it comes up to temperature
- mix the ingredients for a traditional gingerbread dough and form it into biscuits using moulds inspired by the reign of Queen Elizabeth I – whose love of gingerbread we will explore during the session
- bake their beautiful biscuits in the castle’s wood-fired oven
- decorate their biscuits with edible gold leaf to create treats fit for royalty!

Please note: There is a strict minimum age of 10 years for this workshop. We cannot accommodate younger participants or younger siblings. Adults must remain present throughout the session to supervise and assist the participating children in their care.

This workshop will use gluten-based and dairy-based ingredients. If you are concerned about food allergies or intolerances, please contact us before booking.

This workshop will involve a wood fire and high temperatures. The fire/oven will be tended throughout the workshop by trained staff and children will be closely supervised when interacting with the oven. If you have any concerns about these aspects of the workshop, please contact us before booking.

Elements of the workshop will take place outside. Please come dressed for the weather.

This session is delivered in partnership with the Community and Family Learning Team at Wakefield Council’s Adult Education Service.
