- **Event Description**: I’m incredibly excited to be organising a Ladies Takeover at BMW Off Road Skills, two dedicated days designed to encourage more women to experience adventure riding in a friendly, supportive environment.

I’ve been riding motorcycles for 20 years, but almost all of that had been on sports bikes. Everything changed in 2023 when I bought my BMW R1250GS and discovered BMW Off Road Skills, the fantastic Welsh training school run by Dakar legend Simon Pavey.

Soon afterwards, I booked my Level 1 course. I absolutely loved it, and somehow found myself entering the GS Trophy UK Qualifier that September!

Around 100 women attended that event, the largest number of female entrants it had ever attracted. I was so proud to have played a part simply by spreading the word and encouraging women to give it a go.

As my photograph demonstrates, my first competition didn’t go entirely to plan! But falling off didn’t mean I wasn’t capable. It simply meant I was learning.

Since then, I’ve returned to the school three more times to complete Level 2 twice, and recently completed Level 3. I still have plenty to practise and I’m already planning to repeat it so I can work on mastering power slides and suspension loading!

This training has transformed my ability to manage a large adventure bike. It has also massively improved my road riding, helping me feel calmer and more confident when dealing with loose surfaces, poor road conditions and unexpected obstacles.

That confidence didn’t appear overnight. It came through good instruction, encouragement, practice, the occasional tumble and repeatedly giving things a go.

That is exactly what this Ladies Takeover is about.

You do not need previous off-road experience. You do not need to arrive feeling confident. You don’t even need to own an adventure bike. You only need to be willing to try.

There will be options for different experience levels, with expert coaching in small groups and the chance to learn alongside other women on their own adventure-riding journeys.

**Already completed Level 2 and ready for Level 3**? Please book a Level 2 place. The instructors will identify the Level 3 riders and move them into a separate Level 3 training group.

⚠️ WOMEN HAVE EXCLUSIVE BOOKING UNTIL THE END OF JULY

We want to give as many women as possible the opportunity to secure a place. After the end of July, any remaining spaces will need to be opened first to partners and friends and then to the wider public.

Please don’t worry, the female training groups will remain women-only throughout the event. Opening the remaining places will simply help us ensure the overall weekend can go ahead.
