- **Event Description**: Someone once said that Patriotic songs are the songs of summer and this summer is no exception.  In fact, as we celebrate 250 years of our independence, there is a greater longing to hear songs that speak of the greatness of our country and its heritage.  Songs that stir the soul and pull at the heart strings.  On July 3rd at 6:30pm in the cool, air-conditioned sanctuary of First United Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church, Prairie Carillon, north central Oklahoma’s community handbell choir under the direction of Marta Sullivan, will present many of your favorite “American” songs in the “Let Freedom Ring” handbell concert.  
 In a musical journey through the last 250 years of our nation, the concert opens with some of the most beloved Patriotic songs such as "The Star-Spangled Banner” and “My Country, 'Tis of Thee”.   As the program continues, "Cowboy Ballads" of the 1800’s will be sung by Marshall Kay Grant, Joe Lessert, and Lisa Lessert.  Selections from the 1900’s will include two medleys of songs, one by Gershwin, including “Rhapsody In Blue” and another by John Williams, of “Stars Wars” fame.  The concert ends with “God Bless the USA” and “Battle Hymn of the Republic” with organ.
Handbell Choir personnel include Amanda Cook, Jennifer Douglas, Donna Lamm, Joe Lessert, Lisa Lessert, Zack Robertson, Sarah Rodgers, Debra Rue, Claire Scott, Mark Southard, Debbie Turner, TL Walker, and Patti Ziegenhain.
Start your 4th of July weekend immersed in the sounds of the most beloved patriotic songs.  There is no admission charge, and all are welcome.  Come join Prairie Carillon and friends as we “Let Freedom Ring”.  
Prairie Carillon is an Associate Member of the Ponca City Federated Music Club.
