This 5-day-long immersive youth blacksmith program is for young aspiring blacksmiths ages 12 -17. Students will gain strong fundamental skills in blacksmithing with traditional forging techniques. They will learn to forge with confidence while completing projects independently, guided by hands-on instruction. The course will also cover safety in a metal workshop, history, basic metallurgy, and proper hammer technique. With the skills learned, students will taper, scroll, punch, and twist hot metal into functional and decorative shapes. Each student will have the opportunity to complete multiple projects throughout the program. Additional time for fit and finish of the final project might be added during open studio hours (Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6-9 PM) at no extra cost to participants. No prior experience is necessary!
