Watching a family member battle an addiction can be one of the most traumatizing events in a lifetime. 

It can get very heavy to carry it all at times. And while therapy is not for everyone, support and knowing that there is a community you can belong to is priceless. 

Al anon and Nar anon meetings are free and have been instrumental in helping to deal with childhood trauma. 

There is no shame in reaching out for help. I didn’t cause it. I can’t control it. And I can’t cure it. 

Realizing these things can take a lot of weight and stress off a person who cares for a substance abuser.
