The only exception is a child under 5 years of age AND NO FISHING LINES ARE SET FOR THE CHILD.LOCATIONLower Lake Huron: North to Latitude 43’34” (just north of Grand Bend west to north of Lexington, Michigan) Upper St. Clair River: South to the southern tip of Fawn Island.BLUEWATER ANGLERS SALMON DERBY RULES &amp; REGULATIONSAll first place fish in each category become the property of Bluewater Anglers until they are displaced by a larger fish or until after the awards presentation.1. The 2026 Salmon Derby starts at 12:00 AM (midnight) on Friday, May 1, 2026 and ends at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 10, 2026. No fish caught before the start or after the end of the Salmon Derby may be entered.2. Participants agree to abide by the regulations of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources &amp; Forestry (MNRF) under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, the Department of Transportation Small Boat Safety Regulations and, when fishing in US waters, the regulations of the Michigan DNR. Any violations of these regulations will mean automatic disqualification from the derby and all prizes forfeited.3. All Canadian anglers between the age of 18 and 65 require an Ontario fishing license. Also, a non-resident Michigan fishing license is required for Canadians fishing in American waters. A nonresident Ontario fishing license is required for Americans fishing in Canadian waters.4. Participants are restricted to angling only in the area bounded on the west by the St. Clair River, south to the south limit of Fawn Island, east to Grand Bend, north to latitude 43’-34” and northwest to north side of Lexington, Michigan. The boundary for all streams and rivers entering into the St. Clair River and Lake Huron is the shoreline at the mouth of the stream or river, not the first bridge or roadway. If the Canada/USA borders are closed, anglers will not be allowed to fish in USA waters.5. Each person must obtain a derby ticket and pay the derby entry fee at least one day before participating in the derby. Each fish entered must be accompanied with a signed official derby ticket.6. Tickets purchased during the Salmon Derby are not valid for participating in the Event on the day of sale, except tickets sold by authorized charter boat operators to their clients before leaving port.7. Each participant, by paying the entry fee and signing the derby ticket, acknowledges he or she has read and understands the rules of this contest and undertakes to abide by all the rules of the Salmon Derby.8. Everyone in a boat must be entered in the Salmon Derby or all persons in the boat will be disqualified from entering fish. The only exception is a child under 5 years of age AND NO FISHING LINES ARE SET FOR THE CHILD.9. Participants agree to allow an official of the Salmon Derby to inspect their boat at any time to ascertain that all occupants are paid entrants.10. Family entries are defined as parents OR grandparents OR guardians &amp; dependent children 15 years of age &amp; under (2 Generations Only).11. For Seniors Day and Kids prize categories, it is the responsibility of the derby participants to declare their eligibility for these prizes. Seniors are defined as 65 or older on Seniors Day. Kids are defined as 15 or under on the first day of the derby.12. Fish will only be weighed at the official weigh-in stations located at Sarnia Bay Marina or Port Franks Community Centre between the hours of 12:00 noon and 8:00 PM with the exception of Sunday, May 10th when the weigh stations close at 3:00 PM. Participants must be in line with their fish before the weigh-in station closes in order to have their fish weighed in. If a participant arrives at the weigh-in station after closing time, they may enter their fish the next day, except for the last day of the derby. The fish should be kept cool but NOT frozen (Rule #15). The fish will be considered part of the next day’s possession limit (Rule #17).13. Salmon, rainbow trout, brown trout, walleye, and lake trout must weigh a minimum of 2.00 pounds to be entered in the Salmon Derby.14. A fish may be entered only once and will be marked with a punched hole in the gill plate at the weigh-in station.15. Only fish that are whole may be entered. Frozen or gutted fish will not be weighed. Fish that have a snag or foul hook mark, gaff or gill net mark, even if taken legitimately by the contestant, will NOT be accepted at the weigh stations. Entries may be disqualified upon examination by the Salmon Derby Committee or a fish biologist.16. All fish entered must have been caught by the angler entering such fish. Any attempt, in any manner, to falsify entries will result in disqualification by the Salmon Derby Committee and any prizes will be forfeited.17. The maximum number of fish that can be entered in one day by a Salmon Derby participant is the same as the daily possession limits shown in the Zone 13 and Zone 19 Seasons and Limits tables in the 2026 Fishing Ontario Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary.18. Prizes will be awarded in five categories: Salmon, Trout-Shore Caught (Rainbow Trout/Brown Trout), Trout-Boat Caught (Rainbow Trout/Brown Trout), Lake Trout and Walleye.19. The ranking of fish will be based on the gross weight of the individual fish entered. In case of a tie, the first fish weighed in will be placed ahead.20. Contestants may enter as many fish as legally allowed, however, NO ANGLER WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR MORE THAN ONE PRIZE IN ANY ONE SPECIES CATEGORY, the heaviest fish to count.21. A contestant may be required to sign an affidavit attesting to the validity of any prize winning entry and at the discretion of the Salmon Derby Committee be required to take a polygraph (lie detector) examination.22. Any contestant wishing to officially protest the eligibility, acceptability, or weight of any fish and/ or the interpretation of these rules must do so in writing delivered to the weigh-in station within 48 hours of the alleged violation. The Salmon Derby Committee shall be the judge in determining if any infraction of the rules or spirit of the derby has taken place and shall take whatever action it deems appropriate. All decisions of the Salmon Derby Committee, MNRF officials or law enforcement official are final.23. The presentation of prizes will take place Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at the Point Edward Optimist Hall, Point Edward Arena. Doors open at 6:30 PM. Awards Presentation starts at 7:00 PM.24. The winner of the Bluewater Anglers Members Only Draw will be drawn from all fish entered during the derby by a member of the Bluewater Anglers. The winner must be a fully paid up member of the Bluewater Anglers on the day before the fish was entered. Bluewater Anglers memberships purchased or renewed during the derby are not valid until the following day (i.e. not valid on the day of purchase).25. NOTE: SPONSOR’S PRIZES ARE NOT REDEEMABLE FOR CASH. IT IS THE WINNER’S RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK THEIR PRIZES FOR AN EXPIRY DATE.26. Any prizes not picked up by June 30, 2026 will become the property of the Bluewater Anglers.27. This Association will not be liable to, or for the loss of property, or for injury to the person of any contestant or spectator. Contestants compete in this derby at their own risk and agree to hold this Association, the sponsors, the agents and employees thereof harmless from any liability, claims and costs of any nature whatsoever.
