- **Event Description**: Workshops for Plymouth’s skate community to think, talk, and plan together about where skating happens and what’s changing in the city.About this EventWho’s Visible, Who’s Heard, Who’s Welcomed?: Sunday Feb 8 at Sappho’s 2pm-4pmThis session focuses on the internal dynamics of Plymouth’s skate spaces — who is present, who is missing, and why? The session invites reflection on how the skate ‘community’ can understand itself in ways that hold space for more kinds of people, and how it wants to show up publicly — especially if it’s being watched more closely or asked to represent itself to non-skaters.Participants will explore questions of visibility, belonging, and identity within the scene. There is a deeply rooted stereotype of skateboarders as antisocial young men who destroy public spaces. How can skateboarding challenge this perception, and become more inclusive for skaters who are female, queer, global majority, mixed-race, or from other minorities, so they can share space alongside young male ‘core’ skaters.Skate SessionWe’re planning a skate with Emily and Amy from WeSkateSoton before the session — details will be announced the week of the event.About the Rolling Together: Spring 2026 programme:Rolling Together’s programme includes a series of 3 monthly workshops and a Go See/skate jam to/in Gloucester. Running from February, they’re for skaters in Plymouth who care about where skating happens, what’s changing in the city, and how we can have more say in it.These sessions are just for the skate community — not public events or showcases. They’re a chance to come together, share what we know, build confidence, and work out how we want to respond to changes in the city, especially around Civic Plaza and the Armada Way Regeneration. Each session leads into the next. We’ll map what’s happening now, talk about who feels included or pushed out, build skills in speaking up and organising, with a view to shaping a community plan we can take forward together. With further activities to come.Attendance at all three workshops expected to further community cohesion and action together. We are working with key national voices to lead the sessions and are delighted to announce that the first two sessions will be run by WeSkateSoton.Rolling Together is a collaboration with Ben Borthwick, Take A Part and WeSkateSoton funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.

Civic Space is about gathering skaters to have a voice as the city centre is being reshaped in ways that exclude skaters. We want to change perceptions of skateboarding by holding progressive conversations about the design of public spaces, and amplify skating’s rich contribution to Plymouth’s cultural scene."
