After the success of our Queer Ancestors Writing Workshops, Storytelling and Ceremony earlier in the year Write Out Loud are back with a Winter Solstice event for the LGBTQ+community
QUEER WINTER SOLSTICE
We will meet at the beautiful Snapdragons site in Victoria Park to celebrate the Winter Solstice-the arrival of the shortnest day and longest night of the year (on the 21st December) and the start of the journey back towards bright days and the new life of spring.
Celebrated since ancient times this is the perfect celebration if Christmas and other winter festivals don't feel like a perfect fit for you. It's a time to celebrate rest, reflection and the light of hope in the darker months.
WRITE AND CRAFT
The event will start with writing and crafts for the season in the warm and cosy library space.
Together we shall create solstice poems and messages and craft solstice cards to share with our friends and found family and our very own 'Queertingles' (think Christingle orange and candle... but more queer and pagan!) to take home.
WINTER SOLSTICE RITUAL
Then we will gather outside around the fire to take part in a relaxed ceremony inspired by celtic spirituality to mark the season and share our hopes. The ceremony is designed to be open to people of all faiths and none.
WRITE OUT LOUD is a project led by artists Jon Nash and Mich Sanderson to create creative events for the LGBTQ+ community in Devon. @writeoutloudproject
