In a time of rising tides and intensifying storms, what happens when a vulnerable city builds by the sea? It's new Innovation District becomes one of the world's most imperiled neighborhoods, known as the...Inundation District.
Join Plimoth Cinema as we present An Evening of Food and Film on October 19, 2024 to watch the recent documentary Inundation District, directed David Abel, a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter who covers fisheries and environmental issues for The Boston Globe.
The evening will begin with a gathering in Plimoth Patuxet’s Gainsborough Hall. Guests will enjoy sipping on a selection of wines and delectable bites of artisanal cheeses, jams, seasonal nuts, and cured meats, along with a soft pretzel station featuring assorted mustard dips. Following the hour-long gathering, they will transition to the Linn Theater for a special screening of Inundation District. The film chronicles the struggle of rising sea levels in Boston's Seaport district.
In a time of rising seas and intensifying storms, one of the world’s wealthiest, most-educated cities made a fateful decision to spend billions of dollars erecting a new district along its coast — on landfill, at sea level. Unlike other places imperiled by climate change, this neighborhood of glass towers housing some of the world’s largest companies was built well after scientists began warning of the threats, including many at its renowned universities. The city, which already has more high-tide flooding than nearly any other in the United States, called its new quarter the Innovation District. But with seas rising inexorably, and at an accelerating rate, others are calling the neighborhood by a different name: Inundation District.
Following the film, guests will enjoy a Q&A with Director David Abel.
Each ticket includes one complimentary glass of wine or beer. Cash bar available for additional purchases.
Proceeds from the evening will support Plimoth Patuxet Museums and our educational mission.
