Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) teaches adults how to recognize unique signs and symptoms of mental health or substance use challenges in youth ages 12-18. YMHFA gives you the tools you need to start the conversation and provide initial support to a young person experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge or crisis.
This course is ideal for parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and anyone who works or interacts with young people.
Delivery: In-Person at 7304 Alma Dr, Plano Texas in the Guadalupe Training Room.
You will learn:
This is an all-day class presented in person from 9 am until 5 pm with a lunch break that is typically 30 minutes. You may choose to leave for this break, or you can bring lunch.
There are a couple of brief online surveys to complete before class. You will be emailed instructions on how to complete these steps about 2 weeks before the class date.
* Please do not register for this class if you have taken Youth Mental Health First Aid in the last 12 months.
**Collin County, TX residents (or those working in the county) and those in the surrounding area will be given preference. If you are from outside this area you can find classes near you here: https://www.mentalhealthfirstaid.org/
Participants that complete the full course will earn a three-year certification.
