- **Event Description**: In this reflection on creativity and connection, visual artist, Jamie Schwaba will share her experience how arts can bring people together in meaningful ways especially during times of isolation and uncertainty. Jamie will share stories from her visual arts journey including “Sharing Creativity” project, an initiative launched during the COVID-19 pandemic to combat isolation, along with personal commissions and cause-driven work.
She will explore how creativity can spark connection, foster belonging, and create
moments of unexpected joy. Whether through a handmade postcard, a painted rock, or a simple piece of art that reminds someone of a special time and place.
This talk will invite you to consider how we can all use creativity, in big or small ways, to build and strengthen community.
Jamie is a Winona- based mixed media artist who loves to explore different
materials and to create on top of unique surfaces such as sheet music and vintage
maps. Her visual art is often inspired by “my lifelong love and work in theatre and sense of place such as special places where community gathers such as coffee shops, bookstores, and parks.” Her art is featured at the Museum of Broadway in New York City, on the cover of the Winter 2026 Inspire(d) Magazine, gifted by the City of Winona to their sister city Misato, Japan, and displayed on and inside of the Coffee Camper in Fountain City. When not creating visual art Jamie works as the Director of Development  Reading Center/Dyslexia Institute of MN and recently took on the role of Executive Director of the Sugarloaf Community Theatre.
