About the event

Art and Activism: The Impact of Art on the Climate Conversation
Continuing with our theme, “Spirit of Activism,” Kamala Nair of the Minnesota Marine Art Museum will present “Art and Activism: The Impact of Art on the Climate Conversation” at our Unitarian Universalist Sunday Service at Wesley United Methodist Church on December 7 at 10 a.m.

As the new Associate Curator of Clean Water and Climate for the Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM), this question guides Kamala Nair’s work: “What role can art play in the climate conversation and does it have an impact?” She will share what she has learned so far from her experience and discuss the value of having art as a medium to convey climate messages.

Kamala Nair has a B.S in Environmental Science from Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis (2021) and an M.S in Environmental Science and Policy from Johns Hopkins University (2023). Her educational and internship experiences were centered in natural resource management, policy analysis, and environmental equity. She began working at MMAM in June, 2025, and enjoys starting her day with a breakfast sandwich or croissant from their new museum cafe. She enjoys being on the river and meeting community members. In her role at the museum, she is tasked with leading MMAM’s efforts to create a 5-year climate action plan and manage the transition into clean energy and sustainable practices. She is also a work group member for the University of Minnesota's Extension Regional Sustainable Development Partnerships (RSDP). She strives to help build community resilience in the face of climate change and explore the ways in which museums and cultural institutions can be a resource for the community to help elevate the climate conversation.

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Winona meets at Wesley United Methodist Church, 114 W. Broadway St., at the west end of the building. Enter through the door under the arches. Parking is available in the city lots across the street, and the accessible entrance is on the back side of the church. Childcare is available during the service.
