Launched in 1977 aboard Voyager 1 and 2, the Golden Record is often described as the most ambitious “message in a bottle” ever created — a gold‑plated time capsule designed to last over a billion years. 

It carries 27 tracks ranging from Bach and Beethoven to Chuck Berry, forming the ultimate interstellar mixtape. Its cover doubles as a universal instruction manual, using binary code, the hydrogen atom, and a pulsar map to show any future finder how to play the record and where it came from. Even a sample of uranium‑238 was added so scientists across the cosmos could determine how long the spacecraft has been traveling.

Now audiences can hear some of those golden sounds including the brilliance of Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 (Allegro) and the electrifying power of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring — performed with dancers from The Children’s Ballet. Stravinsky’s groundbreaking score, famous for its raw energy and driving rhythms, tells a story of ancient ritual and renewal. Its visceral power and revolutionary sound world still feel startlingly modern more than a century after its premiere.

The program also features:

• Mozart’s “Die Hölle Rache” (Queen of the Night Aria) from The Magic Flute – a dazzling showcase of vocal fireworks. Its fierce intensity makes it one of the most thrilling moments in all of opera.

• Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus - a serene and luminous choral gem. This work captures Mozart’s gift for profound beauty in just a few minutes. Its gentle harmonies offer a moment of reflection and stillness.

• El Cascabel by Lorenzo Barcelata – a lively and rhythmic Mexican classic that bursts with festive energy. Its playful character evokes the joy and spirit of traditional folk celebrations.

• Sing We and Chant It by Thomas Morley - a bright and cheerful English madrigal. This piece delights with its crisp rhythms and buoyant charm. 

• Baba Yetu by Christopher Tin - the first video‑game composition to win a Grammy. This Swahili song of the Lord’s Prayer is both powerful and deeply moving. 

• Ode to Joy from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 -one of the most recognizable melodies in the world. This anthem celebrates the 
universal brotherhood of humankind. 

• Waltzing Mathilde by Charles Godfrey Leland - this charming waltz carries a nostalgic, old‑world elegance. Its graceful melody invites listeners into a warm, dance‑like sway.
