On Sunday, June 28, 2026, Nancy Miller and Christina Herndon are going to celebrate the life and legacy of Nancy’s husband, Chris’s step dad, Don ‘Califon Rock’ Miller .. and everyone is invited.
Whether you knew Don personally or professionally. Or if you ever had the pleasure of seeing him perform with one of his many projects. Blackjack, JLT Allstars, Hollow Point, Gypsy Rose. Winslow or The Black Cross Band. . You are all invited to come celebrate as Don would have wanted us to.
We lost Don suddenly on October 31st 2025. Dons wife Nancy had a very intimate gathering for Dons burial. She didn’t want a sad funeral service but instead decided to bring us all together on a warm spring afternoon to gather and celebrate Don the way he would want us to. With music. Live music.
The event is booked for the date you see here on the invite. Sunday, June 28th at one of Dons favorite places to perform. The Clinton Elks. Hosts to such great events such as Russtival, Clinton Music Fest, Wildfest and Friday Nights Live. What better place to bring us together to share our favorite stories and to reminisce about Don.
This is a totally free event and it is rain or shine .. The only thing we ask is you come with a smile on your faces and love in your heart. There will be laughter and there will be tears but most importantly and we’re certain with Dons approval there will be live music. There will be a cash bar and we’ll get some info on food soon. As always, outside alcohol is prohibited.
Dons main squeezes, The Black Cross Band and Winslow will be your musical hosts. Here’s a soft idea of what to expect.
At 2:00pm Winslow - An Evening of The Eagles will kick off the celebration. Don was a co-founder and an integral part of Winslows early days. He and bassist Steve Ratchen worked tirelessly to get wind under the wings of what has grown to become one of the top Eagle tribute bands in the region. You’ll need to be onsite (and bring a chair) by 1pm to guarantee yourself a prime spot either under the Elks giant pavilion or a peaceful spot on the grassy knoll outside.
Next up will be The Black Cross Band featuring all her most recent members, Kenny Horvath, Tommy Lunger Jr, Wiley Moody, Jamie Tiger and Lenny DePiano….Black Cross will take us the rest of the way. The entire day is scheduled 2-6 but we’ve been given the green light to go later if needed. There is list of stellar musicians that have been in bands with Don that we have invited to come up and play with Black Cross. It’s going to be crazy fun. . After Winslow’s set The Black Cross Band will be the core band for the rest of the day. . . Black Cross will be doing that Southern Rock thang that made them who they were for over 10yrs. Guests will be called up throughout the day. You’ll most likely get to hear other classic rock hits that Don used to play in his other bands .. We look forward to what this day will bring.
As of the time of this posting this is the current blueprint .. As always we expect this blueprint to be updated or most likely, totally tossed out the window .. lol.. Anything is possible, and we welcome the chaos .. But the chaos will be embraced and managed. (Famous last words) .. lol
