Abraham Lincoln was a friend of many in Pike County long before he even moved to Springfield.
Friends from New Salem (Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site), from the Blackhawk War, and from various points in his childhood and young adulthood all looked forward to Lincoln's trips to this area so they could visit.

From 1838 to 1858, Pike County and Lincoln both underwent great changes and developments. They saw each other grow in those 20 years.

The Shastid Family, who knew Lincoln from New Salem, were close friends of and frequent hosts to this future president. The Pike County Historical Society is proud to own and preserve this home and to use it to teach about Lincoln and his times.

There is no cost to attend, but donations are greatly appreciated and will benefit repairs to this nearly 200 year old home. 

The Shastid House was built in 1838 by John Shastid, making it one of the oldest standing homes in Pittsfield. The home underwent an extensive restoration in the early 2000s and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Historic buildings of all shapes and sizes need constant love and attention so we earnestly ask for your support in this next round of restoration of the house that Congressman Paul Findley affectionately named Pittsfield's Precious Heirloom.
