Sun 3/17, Metal Jewelry Sawing for Beginners: Geometric & Shape Based Brass Statement Earrings, 11-2pm

Learning to saw metal efficiently is a foundational skill of metalworking. In this metalworking class you will learn the ins and outs of successfully wielding a saw against sheet metal. Using traditional hand tools we will cut out, refine, customize, and assemble your chosen design. Whether your style is quirky, geometric, or more free form & organic- we've got you covered. You are the designer in this class with a variety of shapes and styles encouraged.

In this beginner level class, you will focus on working with brass for the material and learn new tools from our Zodiac class. All metalsmithing classes may be taken in any order since they are introductory and involve skill building different skills in each workshop. So if you're here for the project or the skills- each class feels new.

Techniques learned include:
sawing
filling
sanding
texturing
stamping
hole punching & assembly with jump rings
finishing

All materials needed to create your earrings will be provided. Each student leaves class with their own handcrafted brass earrings complete with surgical steel ear wires, a list of resources, and the badass ability to cut metal and modify metal with your bare hands.

Teacher Bio:

Elizabeth Sanchez is the metalsmith and designer behind Horsethief, a silver goods brand that draws from the creator’s own lifestyle and experiences. Elizabeth is primarily self taught with a background in graphic design. Her medium of choice is sterling silver which she combines with ethically sourced stones to create her pieces. She is inspired by folklore, historical adornments, the natural world, and exploring her Spanish heritage.
