The Program:

Challenges and Growth Opportunities in Exterior Tile & Stone

presented by Mapei and Daltile

This seminar addresses building codes and standards relevant to exterior adhered tile and stone installations including IBC, ANSI, and TCNA, while examining the dynamics of exterior installations. Attendees will learn how to specify the surface preparation, installation methods, and setting materials for the demanding exterior environment. They will learn the varying performance characteristics of setting materials and grouts during and after installation. The program examines the proper selection and use of gauged porcelain tile (GPT), GPT panels/slabs, traditional porcelain tile, and stone tile in exterior environmental conditions.

Interior Installation of Tile and Stone

presented by Custom Building Products and MSI

Attendees will develop an understanding of the various types of tile and stone, setting methods, system components, and quality assurance methods as outlined in the ANSI A108 standards and the TCNA Handbook.  The program will address design and interior installation requirements for conventional large format tile and stone, as well as for thin gauged porcelain tile (GPT) and GPT panels/slabs.  The program will provide an in-depth discussion of floor flatness and substrate preparation requirements, and it will also address the selection of setting materials and grouts for tile and stone.

Critical Points of Tile Design and Installation

presented by International Masonry Institute

This seminar takes a close look at the most important elements of a successful tile project, from design through the finished installation. Applying the evaluation criteria of the Advanced Certifications for Tile Installers (ACT) to real case studies, this program examines the critical requirements of ACT’s seven specialty areas: large format tile / substrate preparation, membranes, mud floors and walls, shower receptors, gauged porcelain tile, and grouts. In addition to architectural details and project photos, this seminar uses physical full scale mockups to illustrate critical design points of a tile assembly.

Tile Problems and Solutions: A Panel Discussion

This interactive panel discussion will provide the audience with invaluable insights into designing with and installing tile from the local perspective. The moderated discussion will tackle difficult local and regional problems, and will challenge the panelists to present workable solutions. The panel in each city will comprise a local TCAA member or other union tile contractor, a BAC journeyman tile setter, local suppliers of tile and setting materials, and other industry experts. Bring your questions and jobsite stories.
