In the Weeds With The Caucus


Join The Caucus as we dive into the issue of marijuana legalization in the commonwealth. This half-day nonpartisan summit will include a keynote breakfast, three CLE accredited educational sessions and a keynote luncheon.

Confirmed Breakfast Speaker:
Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman will provide a summary from his 67 county marijuana listening tour, offering insight into the collective feedback, challenges, opportunities, and future possibilities regarding legalization of marijuana in Pennsylvania.

Educational Sessions:
The summit will include three sessions in which expert panelists will discuss the medical, legal and policy implications of cannabis legalization.

9:00 – 10:00 The Medical Implications: Doctors have been operating under a well-established set of rules for nearly two years, but what happens within the medical community if recreational use is legalized?

Confirmed speakers: Dr. Ajay Wasan, MD, MA, MSc, Professor and Vice Chair for Pain Medicine, Anesthesiology, Chronic Pain Service, UPMC; Sara Jane Ward, PhD., Assistant Professor, Pharmacology, Lewis Katz School of Medicine, Temple University.

Speakers: Dr. Beau Kilmer, Co-Director, RAND Drug Policy Research Center; Dr. Jonathan P. Caulkins, H. Guyford Stever University Professor of Operations Research and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University's Heinz College.

12:45 – 1:30 p.m. Luncheon: A Data Dive
Casey Taylor, Vice President of Client Success, of CivicScience, will share data and insights regarding awareness and sentiment towards the legalization of marijuana on a national and statewide level. What does the data show in terms of safety, social and economic impact on a community?
