CLP is proud to announce the third annual Vivian Ann Davidson Hewitt Lecture intended to honor and celebrate the first Black librarian at CLP, who served the Hill District community in the 1940s. The Hewitt Lecture is presented in partnership with the Allegheny County Library Association and the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Computing and Information.

Nicole A. Cooke is the Augusta Baker Endowed Chair and Professor at University of South Carolina. Her research and teaching interests include human information behavior, critical cultural information literacy, LIS Education and equity and social justice in librarianship. She is the Founding Editor of ALA Editions/Neal-Schuman’s Critical Cultural Information Studies series. Her latest book is The Legacy of Black Women in Librarianship: When They Dared to Be Powerful.

All attendees are invited to attend a reception following the lecture. The reception will feature activities to reflect on the lecture and a gallery show around the book, The Legacy of Black Women in Librarianship.
