- **Event Description**: On May 27, 2026, the Pittsburgh Public Schools Board of Directors approved a facilities plan that will result in significant changes to schools across the city, including in Brighton Heights.
The first thing everyone needs to know is that nothing will change for the 2026-2027 school year.
Based on the plan as it is currently understood, the following changes will happen beginning in the 2027-2028 school year.

The Rooney building on Fleming Avenue will temporarily close for renovations.
All Morrow middle school students (6th through 8th grade) will attend a comprehensive Northside Middle School that will be located in the Allegheny building.
Kindergarten through 5th grade students will continue to go to the Morrow building on Davis Avenue.

This means there will no longer be a middle school located in Brighton Heights. Morrow’s middle school grades will merge into the new Northside Middle School, where all Northside students in grades 6–8 will attend. If the proposed attendance zones remain in place, only students from Brighton Heights and Perry North/Observatory Hill will be assigned to Morrow K–5 beginning in the 2027–2028 school year.
Once the Rooney building has been renovated, the Morrow elementary school will move there and the Morrow building on Davis Avenue will close. This should happen in the 2028-2029 school year.
The district has also stated that it plans to renovate the Northview Elementary building in the near future. Under the current plan, Northview would eventually serve students from Perry North/Observatory Hill, Northview Heights, Troy Hill, and Spring Hill. If those plans move forward and attendance zones remain unchanged, Morrow could ultimately become a neighborhood school serving only Brighton Heights students.
We understand that many Brighton Heights families are still processing this decision and trying to understand what it means for their children, their schools, and our community. Families have questions about timelines, school assignments, transportation, programs, and the long-term future of public education on the Northside. Many details have yet to be determined, and information continues to evolve.
To help families stay informed and connected, the Brighton Heights Citizens Federation will host a Brighton Heights Parents Forum in partnership with One Northside Education Committee and the ATA and Morrow PTOs. The forum will provide an opportunity to share information, discuss questions and concerns, and connect with neighbors as our community navigates these changes together.
