A History of Women's Suffrage

A History of Women's Suffrage

The Bill of Rights Institute is hosting a free one-day workshop entitled "A History of Women’s Suffrage."

At this one-day seminar, you will examine the changing role of women in American government and society, exploring the great questions at the heart of the American experiment. The 19th Amendment stated, “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex,” and the approaching centennial gives us an excellent opportunity to ask the big questions about the nature of equality and democracy with our students. The resources presented will help students answer the questions, “How did Women in America obtain suffrage and how did this struggle impact women and the United States?” and “How are suffrage and citizenship related”? The curriculum guide includes graphic organizers, original background essays, and a glossary to help students understand the historical context and underlying principles that have animated this dynamic period of American history.

We will provide you with easy-to-implement resources to bring these concepts alive and new methods to teach these topics to your students.

This workshop is best suited for high school U.S. History and Government teachers.
