Peter Fletcher Brings World-Class Classical Guitar to the Pipestone Performing Arts Center!
Pipestone, MN — The Pipestone Performing Arts Center is pleased to welcome acclaimed classical guitarist Peter Fletcher for a live concert on Monday, March 9, with showtime at 7:00 p.m. Audiences can expect an intimate and engaging evening of solo classical guitar spanning centuries of musical tradition. This performance is presented by the Pipestone Area Friends of the Library and hosted at the Pipestone Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.
Peter Fletcher is an American classical guitarist based in Detroit and New York City whose recordings on the Centaur Records and Towerhill Recordings labels have received critical acclaim. A graduate of the prestigious Eastman School of Music, Fletcher is known for his audience-friendly performances and thoughtful programming that brings classical guitar repertoire to life for both seasoned listeners and newcomers alike.
Fletcher’s Pipestone recital will showcase music ranging from the Renaissance through the 20th century, while also highlighting selections from his newly released CD, Peter Fletcher in Concert. The program features Johann Sebastian Bach’s Third Lute Suite and Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring; Prelude and Allegro by Spanish lutenist Santiago de Murcia; and Mauro Giuliani’s Variations on “The Harmonious Blacksmith” by George Frideric Handel.
The evening will also include Spanish guitar favorites such as Francisco Tárrega’s exquisitely lyrical Capricho Arabe and three studies by Fernando Sor. Fletcher is especially excited to perform Simple Gifts, the traditional Shaker hymn arranged for guitar by legendary guitarist Christopher Parkening.
A dramatic highlight of the program will be Usher – Valse by Russian guitarist and composer Nikita Koshkin, a gripping work inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher. The concert will culminate with Isaac Albéniz’s Córdoba and Leyenda from Cantos de España, arranged by Fletcher from piano to classical guitar.
When not performing, Fletcher enjoys gardening, running, long-distance cycling, and fountain pens. An avid reader, he favors the works of Cervantes, Proust, Faulkner, and Balzac—interests that reflect the depth and artistry he brings to his music.
