- **Event Description**: The Chipley Woman’s Club will host its annual In the Garden Spring Luncheon on Saturday, April 18, 2026, in the club’s Memorial Garden at 132 S. McDougald Ave. The beloved community event supports the club’s scholarship fund benefiting young women of Harris County. The luncheon is open to community members and guests.The luncheon begins with a social at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at 12:15 p.m., including a wine and mimosa bar. Guests will enjoy special entertainment by Carol Cain, nationally recognized storyteller and artistic director of the Azalea Storytelling Festival.The event will also feature door prizes, a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle.A highlight of this year’s luncheon is the annual garden hat contest, which will commemorate America’s 250th anniversary. Participants are invited to create garden-inspired hats honoring the red, white and blue. Categories include Best America 250 Garden Hat, Most Elegant America 250 Hat and Best “Over the Top” America 250 Hat. The entry fee is $10.The annual spring luncheon funds three scholarships supporting young women from Harris County and the surrounding area. One scholarship assists a Harris County resident who is a junior in the Columbus State University nursing program. Another scholarship goes to Columbus Technical College to assist an enrolled student or students; the college determines the recipients. A third scholarship is awarded to a female graduating high school senior who resides in Harris County through an essay competition. The club’s goal for 2027 is to add a fourth scholarship for a Harris County resident who is a junior enrolled in the education program at LaGrange College.“Our spring luncheon is one of our favorite traditions because it brings friends together while supporting the next generation of young women in our community,” said Mary Ruth Mullins, president of the Chipley Woman’s Club. “We are especially excited to incorporate the America 250 celebration into this year’s event.”This year’s event connects to the national America 250 celebration, marking 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. As communities across the country prepare to honor the milestone in 2026, the Chipley Woman’s Club joins the celebration by incorporating patriotic themes into one of Pine Mountain’s longstanding traditions.Tickets are $50 per person. Originally led by Miss Laura Goodman as president and Miss Bessie Jenkins as secretary-treasurer, the organization became a garden club in 1916 and broadened its civic mission in 1919 when it federated with the national organization and adopted the name Chipley Woman’s Club.In 1927, the club purchased approximately two acres of land at 132 S. McDougald Ave. in Pine Mountain. After paying off the mortgage in 1932, members raised funds through donations and community efforts to construct a clubhouse, which was completed in 1934. The original clubhouse remains on its historic site today and stands as a testament to the dedication and cooperation of generations of members.The club’s objective is to serve the social, educational and philanthropic interests of its members, encourage civic betterment and promote a generous spirit within the community. The organization is non-partisan and non-sectarian.Through fundraisers such as the annual Christmas Tour of Homes, “In the Garden” Spring Luncheon and other themed events, the Chipley Woman’s Club supports a wide range of charitable initiatives. The club provides three annual scholarships to deserving female students who are residents of Harris County, contributes to the Dolly Parton ImaginationLibrary, supports the Pine Mountain Veterans Day program sponsored by the Chipley Historical Center, assists the Family Connection Back-to-School program and provides Christmas gifts for children in need.
