- **Event Description**: Learn to play basic parts for the most commonly used percussion instruments in Brazilian samba.About this EventIn this workshop participants will learn to play basic parts for the most commonly used percussion instruments in Brazilian samba, including: pandeiro (tambourine); tamborim (small frame drum); agogô (double bell); surdo, rebolo, and tantã (bass-register drums); and chocalho (shaker). (Please note: time constraints are such that not everyone will be able to play all of the instruments!) Presenter Gordon Sheard is a jazz pianist, composer and educator who has a PhD in ethnomusicology (specialization – Brazilian popular music), and taught a student Brazilian music ensemble for fifteen years at Humber College in Toronto.Eligibility:Recommended minimum age: 12 (no maximum!)No prior music performance experience required;Maximum number of percussionists at any one time: 21
