Although Trans Day of Visibility is celebrated annually on March 31st, the exhibit is up until April 26th at Proudest Pony PEC and available to view by appointment. This is an opportunity for group reflection on our gender identity(ies), and our role(s) in systems of oppression that harm trans and gender-queer people – which, in case you haven’t noticed, are surging. Everyone is welcome! Access to the exhibit is free, but we’re encouraging folks to consider making a pay-what-you-can donation. Donations are shared between the co-curators and payable on-site. - the offer - A curated experience of the show with one of the organizers, Vi Woo (they/them), a rad PEC-based, disabled queer artist and musician. Then a chance to sit and reflect on the experience through a short, guided sit spot in nearby Benson Park. - the ask - Bring your curiosity and your willingness to embrace the discomfort of not always knowing or understanding. You listen respectfully to others, are mindful of the space you take, and strive for honesty in what you share. Bring yourself dressed for the weather (rain or shine) and something to sit on (small mat, newspaper, bag, etc) if you’re concerned about the possibility of a wet or dirty bum. COVID is still present in our community. In solidarity with disable and immunocompromised folks in PEC and beyond, masking is strongly encouraged (we’ll have some extra ones handy) and we ask that you not attend if you are feeling unwell. Show up, even if you feel unsure. - the details - Meet Becky at the main doors of Proudest Pony PEC (28 1B Picton Main Street – down the alley between The Ye11ow and Books & Co) on Tuesday, April 14th at 6pm. We’ll meet Vi inside where they’ll talk us through the exhibit and answer any questions about the curation process. You’ll have about 20 minutes to explore the art before going together to Benson Park for our sit spot and share. Access to the Proudest Pony PEC is by a set of four steps. There is a washroom on-site. We’ll use sidewalks and roadways to get to Benson Park.
