Step into the natural beauty of Hagood Mill and discover the powerful “green pharmacy” growing right beneath your feet. In this immersive, hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to identify, harvest, and use common spring “weeds” as effective herbal remedies.

Guided by experienced herbalist Donna Putney, participants will begin with a guided foraging walk across the historic grounds of Hagood Mill. You’ll learn to safely and ethically identify beneficial plants such as wild violet, chickweed, plantain, and cleavers—turning everyday weeds into valuable wellness resources.

After the walk, we’ll gather in the barn for two engaging, live demonstrations. First, watch as Donna crafts traditional Hard-Honey Cough Drops using the classic “hard-crack” method over an open fire. Then, you’ll roll up your sleeves and create your own Spring Garden Oxymel—a time-honored herbal syrup made with raw honey and apple cider vinegar, known for supporting immune health and soothing coughs.

You’ll leave with:

    Confidence in identifying medicinal plants in your own backyard
    Your own handcrafted herbal oxymel to take home
    Samples of delicious herbal lozenges
    A deeper connection to traditional Appalachian herbal knowledge

No experience is necessary—just bring comfortable walking shoes and your curiosity!
