Elevating Bird-Friendly GardensSaturday, June 6, 2026 | 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM | Rain or shinePhoenixville is proud to be a Bird Town, and this year’s Summer Garden Tour celebrates what that looks like right at home in our yards, gardens, and shared spaces. Bird Up! will spotlight local home and community gardens that support birds through native plants, layered landscapes, and biodiversity-friendly practices. From caterpillars that feed nestlings to plants that sustain insects year-round, these gardens show how small, thoughtful choices can make a big ecological difference. When we garden for birds, we also support pollinators and the wider web of life. This self-guided tour allows visitors to explore at their own pace and discover practical, inspiring ideas they can use in their own landscapes. Along the way, visitors will enjoy a curated selection of Bird Town–inspired gardens, learn simple ways to create bird-friendly yards and neighborhoods, visit a Native Plant Sale at Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church (121 Church Street) featuring plants that support birds and insects, and take a chance on raffle prizes celebrating nature, gardening, and community.🌱 Calling All GardenersWe are currently seeking a small group of gardens to feature on the tour. "description": "The Phoenixville Green Team (EIN: 23-2563217) is a volunteer-powered force for environmental progress, bringing bold ideas and practical solutions to life. From clean energy advocacy to trail building, we unite community members around the shared vision of a healthier, more sustainable Phoenixville. We have already helped secure a Borough-wide pledge for 100% renewable energy by 2050, installed solar and geothermal systems in public facilities, and co-founded a regional alliance that won a Chester County grant to chart the transition from fossil fuels. Our leadership has shaped the Phoenixville Greenway, a 10-mile linear park along the Schuylkill River and French Creek, and we are championing the completion of the Schuylkill River Loop Trail, connecting downtown to regional greenways and wildlife sanctuaries. At the community level, we make sustainability visible and inspiring through annual events like Earth Day Phoenixville, the Summer Solstice Garden Tour, and this year we are partnering with Sproutreach, a new local eco-justice group, with Flocktoberfest, highlighting Phoenixville’s Bird Town designation. From banning single-use plastics to reimagining schools, businesses, and neighborhoods for a greener future, our track record proves that grassroots leadership drives real change. By supporting the Green Team, funders empower a model of local action with regional impact, where clean energy, healthy ecosystems, and strong community spirit come together to create lasting transformation.PHOENIXVILLE GREEN TEAM – ACHIEVEMENTS AND IMPACTThe Phoenixville Green Team is a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to advancing community, health, and sustainability in the greater Phoenixville area. Since merging in 2015 with the Phoenix Iron Canal and Trails Association, the team continues to evolve.Key Achievements:Clean Energy Leadership● Spearheaded Phoenixville Borough’s resolution for 100% renewable energy by 2050, including the Mayor’s endorsement of the national “Mayors for 100% Clean Energy”campaign.● Successfully advocated for renewable energy infrastructure, including solar PV on borough facilities and a geothermal system in the Phoenixville Area School District.● Co-founded the Phoenixville Area Clean Energy Alliance (PACEA), which secured a Chester County Vision Partnership Plan (VPP) grant (2021) to chart a transition fromfossil fuels to renewable energy, with regional collaboration and community engagement.Trail and Greenway Development● Advanced the long-term vision of the Phoenixville Greenway, a 10-mile linear park integrated with the regional Schuylkill River Trail system (“The Circuit”).● Launched a public campaign to complete the 5.5-mile Schuylkill River Loop Trail, connecting Phoenixville’s downtown, riverfront, Black Rock Sanctuary, and regional trails.● Promoted Chester County’s multi-modal planning efforts, advocating for walkability, biking, and public transit connections.Policy and Advocacy● Supported the passage of Phoenixville Borough’s ban on single-use plastics and Styrofoam (2024), helping local businesses and residents transition to sustainablealternatives.● Through the ReReRe Plastics initiative (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Refuse), educated residents on reducing plastic waste and supported broader state and nationalanti-plastics movements.● Championed best practices such as Passive House construction, community solar, and energy efficiency planning at regional and county levels.Community Engagement and Education● Organized large-scale public events, including Phoenixville Earth Day (themed programs on water, native plants, and carbon sequestration), the Phoenixville Summer Solstice Garden Tour (highlighting edible gardens and pollinator-friendly natives), and Greenixville (eco-marketplace, exhibits and talks for sustainable living).● Hosted film screenings and talks inspiring climate action and local stewardship.● Partnered with Sproutreach in Phoenixville’s recognition as a Bird Town, celebrating biodiversity with the new Flocktoberfest festival on World Migratory Bird Day.Why Our Work MattersThe Phoenixville Green Team has a proven track record of translating grassroots advocacy intotangible environmental achievements: advancing renewable energy adoption, protecting waterways, building green infrastructure, and shifting community culture toward sustainability. With strong partnerships across municipalities, businesses, nonprofits, and residents, we are shaping Phoenixville into a model for resilient, environmentally responsible communities. Investment in the Green Team is investment in a healthier, more sustainable future for our region."
