Cleanup at the Rio

The Rio has been bustling with conservation activities this year. Our intern did some great research on buffelgrass that will help inform our eradication efforts, and Glendale High School students conducted a project using cottonwood poles taken from the Rio to make our plant propagation efforts more efficient.

We held plantings in March and April and planted hundreds of cottonwood poles as well as milkweed for the butterflies. Join us on May 26 to continue removing invasive species and trash from the Rio at Central. We will work from 7 to 10 a.m.

You will park at the Central Gateway (2439 South Central, Northeast corner). From there the group will walk down to the project area together.

You should wear sunscreen, closed-toed shoes (no sandals), long pants, and a hat. If you have a pair of work gloves and/or a pick, bring them along. Sierra Club has gloves and tools for volunteers who don’t have their own. We will have a water cooler full of water but you should bring a reusable water bottle. We will have snacks.

YOUR RSVP HELPS US PLAN FOR ENOUGH TOOLS, SNACKS AND WATER. Thanks for all you do for Arizona's rivers!
